Game Day

Are you ready for some football?

We are, at least for college football.  Adam's an Oklahoma alum and I'm a Notre Dame alum, so Saturdays from now through early January will be spent in front of the TV.  It's not an easy task to get the games here in Mexico, where we can't get the US network stations, even with deluxe cable or satellite.  My first year in Mexico in 2006, I didn't see any games at all.  After Adam arrived in 2007, we got a Slingbox device, which hooks into the cable box of the person we designate in Oklahoma, and transmits that signal through the internet.  The feed, and our internet at the time, was so bad that we could barely make out what was happening.  It was like, "I think the ball went that way based on how the players are moving on the field."  Eventually the Slingbox set-up wasn't working for us anymore, and currently we search online each week for a good feed, which Adam then sets up to show on the TV.  The whole system only works because Adam has an IT background and we have the fastest internet speed available.  Some games can be seen at the local bars and restaurants in Cancun (who knows who they are paying to get it).

This weekend, week #1 of college football, Notre Dame played Navy in the "Emerald Isle Classic" in Dublln, Ireland.  Because of the time change, the game kicked off at 8:00am Cancun time.  Not really a big deal because we're up at 6:00am with Ike anyway.  We got up, had some coffee, and got him into one of his new ND onesies that Grandpa Jim Fed-Exed down this week.  ND won, which in recent years against Navy has not been a guaranteed deal as it was in the previous 50 years.  Anyway, we won by 40 points so it was a good morning.

Unfortunately the Oklahoma game was not until 9:30pm, so we had about eight and a half hours to burn during the afternoon.  I made some cookies, and Adam and I went to the pool (one at a time of course, to watch Isaac), we gave Isaac a bath and got him in his OU gear.  Ike has a 9:30 bedtime so he missed kickoff but he "tailgated" with us.

Below are the pics from the day.  At one point, we had to step away for a sec, and I know that every baby book and authority says never to leave your baby unattended at any time, and that pretty much every parent ignores that rule at some point.  Our solution was to block him into the corner of the couch with a pillow (and a spit rag just in case).  He was not very pleased with this idea.

Also, Ike shows off his mean Fighting Irish look, and Adam rocks his double-glasses look at the pool.  His hair looks really reddish in some of these pics because the way the light is shining on it, but in person it looks light brown.  Who knows what color it will be when he grows up though.
