Isaac's Baptism

Today Isaac was baptized at Nuestra Señora del Carmen Church in Playa del Carmen, about an hour's drive south of Cancun.  Grandma had bought him the "kit," pictured below, which includes a candle, a shell for scooping the baptismal water over his head, and a towel to dry him off.  Lucy and Eric were his godparents.  Grandma also got his baptism duds, a white linen guayabera shirt and white linen pants.  He looked pretty sharp!

First was the 12:00 Mass, which to our surprise featured a mariachi band.  We had a reserved front row seat since we had Isaac's baptism immediately after the service.  Our friends Itzel, Emilio, and their kids also came.

It's only May but it's getting very hot down here, and the ceiling fans at the church were not cutting it.  Lucy had thought ahead to bring fans for each of us.  The church was packed too.

Here's the video of the actual baptism by Fr. Rodriguez, who also baptized Emma back in September:

Our camera lens tends to stick halfway open, and Margie got a shot of Adam and me showing her from across the church how to flick open the lens.

Afterwards we went for lunch at Piola, an Italian-Argentinean restaurant in Playa del Carmen.

We are so happy to have him baptized, and so glad that Grandma Margie could be here with us!
