Last Saturday, we took Isaac to Crococun Zoo in Puerto Morelos, about 20 minutes down the road. It's an interactive zoo where you get an hour-long guided tour through the jungle, and the chance to touch, feed, and interact with the animals they have there, which are mostly native to the Yucatan and southern Mexico. Isaac got ready by wearing his monkey shirt and backpack.
Our guide, which unfortunately I can't remember his name, was really great, and knew a lot about each animal, and could even name all the monkeys. He said they were like his coworkers. We started out with some birds and parrots, and a spider monkey swung down to check us out.
We moved on to lots and lots of crocodiles, which made me nervous, especially since Isaac had no fear whatsoever, then lizards, some of the biggest snakes I'd ever seen, native Aztec dogs known as Xoloitzcuintles or Mexican hairless dogs (which are really ugly but Isaac loved), more crocodiles, a playful spider monkey, and finally some native deer. Guess which one was Isaac's favorite?

It was a nice experience and something that we hadn't done before. Definitely a nice departure from the traditional zoo and more natural than a petting zoo. Good times!
