October Updates
It's mid-October already and Ike's been busy.  He loves to grab onto things and hug them, especially his Cookie Monster, which is the perfect size for him.  Thanks Uncle Brian!  He also enjoys sitting in his infant seat, rocking himself and grabbing onto the toys.  Just last Saturday, he grabbed the ribbon on the middle ...

Thoughts on Being Latino
September is the "mes patrio" here in Mexico, and between that and Isaac getting his Mexican passport, it's got me thinking about what it means to be Mexican, and by extension, Latino.  Isaac was born here and is therefore Mexican.  Does that mean that he's Latino, even though his parents are not?  Who are Latinos a...

Three Months
Isaac is now three months old and is getting more active every day.  His newest trick is to hold onto something.  He can't yet reach out and grab it, but he bats at toys with his fist, and if you put an object in his hand, he'll hold on, shake it around and put it in his mouth. My mom had brought down a blue onesie with a crab on...

Baptisms & Weekend in Playa del Carmen
This past weekend was Mexican Independence Day, and Emma and Eduardo were baptized on Saturday.  The families were spending the weekend at Paradisus La Esmeralda in Playa del Carmen, which is a Melia hotel, so Adam and I decided to stay there as well.  On Friday afternoon, Adam brought Isaac into the office to pick me up, and I had a chan...

Isaac's Latest Achievements
Isaac is one week shy of three months, and he's been growing so fast and surprising us with new achievements all the time.  At his last checkup a few weeks ago he weighed 12 pounds 12 ounces, and as of this week he's 14 pounds.  His legs have gotten really chubby and sturdy.  His cheeks are round and his arms are thickening u...

Game Day
Are you ready for some football? We are, at least for college football.  Adam's an Oklahoma alum and I'm a Notre Dame alum, so Saturdays from now through early January will be spent in front of the TV.  It's not an easy task to get the games here in Mexico, where we can't get the US network stations, even with deluxe cabl...

Cozumel
We decided to take a family vacation before I go back to work, so last week on Tuesday we took the car ferry over to Cozumel, returning on Sunday.  It was like returning home, because for one the service at the Melia Cozumel is amazing and we are always treated like kings, and also it's our first time back since our wedding, and now we hav...

Ike Paxton, International Man of Mystery (aka Paperwork Part III)
Well today was a busy day for Isaac.  In addition to his first day with his new nanny and a pediatrician appointment, he also got his Mexican passport!  Now he has both the US and Mexican passports, and the ability to travel between the two countries without a visa.  After making an appointment and driving up and down the same block ...

Have Passport, Will Travel
Today Isaac got his US passport back from the Consulate here in Cancun!  He also got his Consular Report of Birth Abroad, which certifies that he is a US citizen from birth.  I also got my passport with my new last name.  Below are some pictures from Ike's play time with Emma, as well as some random shots of him sleeping, smilin...

Beach Time
On Sunday Isaac turned eight weeks old!  In the afternoon we went to the beach in Puerto Morelos, about 20 minutes south of Cancun.  It was Ike's first time at the beach and my first time since he was born.  He was a champ!  He loved the water, and didn't even cry when the waves splashed his face.  After we were don...
